The History of the M.O.C.C.

In August of 2006, Richard Danby and Paul Kemerer worked with Jan Bunting and Kirk Spurgeon of Spurgeon Chevrolet (formerly Red Ferris Chevrolet) in Wooster, OH, to set up a table during the annual Corvette Cruise-in event at Boy’s Village (now The Village Network) in order to survey prospective interest in starting a Corvette Club. Thirty-eight individuals expressed interest by signing up on a roster and providing their contact information.

Rich, Paul and Kirk set up an introductory meeting in the Spurgeon Chevrolet showroom to discuss the formation of a new Corvette Club. This September 19th meeting included some who were members of the Wooster-based Cardinal Corvette Club, which deactivated in the mid 1980’s. These individuals provided historical information about the Cardinal Club and about the National Council of Corvette Club’s-Eastern Ohio Region activities. An East Ohio Region NCCC representative also presented information about NCCC affiliation and discussed historical regional Corvette clubs.

Twenty-five people attended a second meeting on October 17th. Attendees discussed club organization, club purpose, club officer volunteers and nominations, NCCC membership, club name, club meeting schedule, and other facets of creating a new Corvette club.

A third meeting was held on November 14th with 29 people in attendance. Representatives from the NCCC; from the Mansfield, OH Corvette Club; from the Buckeye Corvette Club (Canton, OH); and from the Pioneer Corvette Club discussed benefits of NCCC membership/affiliation and related start-up suggestions. Club elections were conducted and club dues and By-laws were discussed.

On December 12, 2006, twenty-six people attended the last meeting of the year. After more discussion, the group took action to incorporate the club as a legal entity in Ohio, opened a bank account, collected dues, submitted membership application forms, and approved Club By-laws. Enthusiastic new members were excited to move into 2007 as the new Mid-Ohio Corvette Club!

We thank all of those who provided us with encouragement, guidance, and contributions, positioning us for success. We especially thank Kirk and Jan at Spurgeon Chevrolet, our primary Club sponsor at that time, for their hospitality and contributions!
